The author is usually an expert or specialist in the field. You can determine expertise by checking for inclusion of the author's credentials or their institutional affiliation in the source. Or, perform a google search for their name.

Audience:

Intended for scholars, researchers, students etc. One way to determine audience is to look for specialized vocabulary or technical terms specific 

Format/Structure:

A structured format that may include an abstract, literature review, methodology, conclusion, bibliography/footnotes

Editors/Publisher

Reviewed and critically evaluated by experts in the field. Sponsored or published by professional organizations, research institutions, universities or scholarly presses

References/Citations 

Includes a bibliography or works cited to demonstrate the document was researched thoroughly
